Shafi’s Christmas release Kalyanaraman, a hilarious laugh riot.
The film starts with a 78 year old Ramankutty (Dileep) telling his story in a flashback to his grandchildren. He belonged to a family who were wedding planners who arranges everything that goes into a wedding like erecting pandals, decorating the house, arranging musicians, generatorr, cars and even cooking for the wedding party! During one such wedding at the Ambadi Thampi’s house where Ramankutty is in charge of all the departments, the marriage gets cancelled in the last minute. The reason was that the groom refuses to tie the knot, as the bride was dumb.
But a good man at heart, Ramankutty asks his brother who is a doctor to marry the helpless girl. But soon Ramankutty falls in love with the girl’s sister Gowri (Navya Nair), but she pretends to be in love with her uncle’s son (Boban Kunchakko), a pop-singer in Bangalore. But later Ramankutty learns that Gowri loves him, but Thampi feels that the women in Ramankutty’s family die at a very young age and so he is against their wedding. How Ramankutty marries Gowri against all odds and live to tell their grandchildren about their love story, forms the rest of the story.
The story is wafer thin and has been made keeping Dileep’s current image in mind. Anyways the film is all fun ‘n’ frolic as director Shafi and script writer Benny.P.Nairambalam could have made it a whole lot more cherishable as simplicity is forsaken for chaos. Dileep is superb and Navya Nair is improving with every film.

Ananthabhadram (also spelled Anandabhadram; in Malayalam: ?????????? ) is a Malayalam film released in 2005 about ghosts, spirits, and black magic, based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Sunil Parameswaran. It is the Malayalam venture of Indian director Santosh Sivan as well as of Bengali model/actress Riya Sen. Ananthabhadram was inspired by the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Theyyam and Kathakali dance movements, and Kalaripayattu.
Ananthabhadram won five awards in the Kerala State Film Awards 2005, and was a commercial success as well. It is the first Malayalam feature screened using a satellite feed instead of conventional prints; aimed at an international market and released as a Ramadan special, it was also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu (as Sivapuram), and English. The story of Ananthabhadram is a fairy tale. Set in rural Kerala, the tale is dominated by black magicians, martial arts experts, sorcerers and seductresses. Sivan said “it was the story of Ananthabhadram that captivated me. The stories my grandmother used to tell me used to take me to a world of mystery. It was the same feeling when I heard this story and I have tried to capture that in my film.” Parameswaran says, “The fables that my grandmother narrated to me when I was a kid was there at the back of mind and that has been a source of my stories.
The movie opens with little Ananthan hearing a tale from his mother (Revathi). She tells him that his family in the ancient village of Shivapuram comes from a line of powerful magicians. The family is responsible for protecting nagamanikyam (a jewel on the serpent’s head), which lies in a secret place in the house guarded by snakes, including a tiny snake called Kunjootan.
The real story begins when Ananthan (Prithviraj Sukumaran) returns to his ancestral village of Sivapuram from the US to light the lamps at Shivakavu, a dark and mysterious temple of Shiva, obeying the long-standing wish of his dead mother. On his way home he meets Maravi Mathai (Cochin Hanifa), the story’s comic relief, on the train. The local black magician Digambaran (Manoj K Jayan) opposes the lighting on the grounds of local superstitions in order get his hands on the nagamanikyam, and disbeliever Ananthan meets the supernatural for the first time in his life.
Chemban (Kalabhavan Mani), the blind martial arts expert, stands in Digambaran’s way; the evil black magician manages to remove Chemban from his way, and leaves a trail of blood in his wake. Digambaran lures Chemban’s sister and his lover Bhama (Riya Sen) a series of sensuous and evil magical rites that feature a wide paraphernalia of the exotic, including Kathakali movements, traditional magic spells, special effects, and make-up artist Pattanam Rasheed’s black-and-red face paints.
Meanwhile, Ananthan’s cousin Bhadra (Kavya Madhavan) falls for him and his light-hearted flirting, eventually leading to a commitment of love between them. In his effort to fit into the local environment, Ananthan wins the villagers’ hearts by his easy kind manners; breached only when the magician takes over his mind for a short while. Bhadra faces the dilemma of choosing between Ananthan’s love and becoming a Devi (goddess) in a mystical ritual of self-offering.
In the end, Ananthan and Bhadra escape Digambaran’s sinister tricks and unravel his conspiracy in front of the villagers, who always believed him to be a benevolent mystic. The fight to the end sees Digambaran destroyed and Ananthan restoring the nagamanikyam.

Novel, which is the debut directorial venture by Vijayan East Coast, can be strictly prescribed for those with a romantic temperament. The film develops through the life of Sethunath - a successful businessman and a poet who is presently on the limelight following his new book ‘Swantham’ earning the commonwealth awards. As every media tries to get an exclusive from him, he keeps on evading all the possible attempts of getting into limelight. He passes off the award with less interest as he never knew who has translated the book and presented it as a nominee for the commonwealth awards.
Aneesa, the leading reporter of malayala nadu and an ardent fan of Sethunath is hell bound on getting an exclusive interview from him and for that she bribes Subrahmaniam Swamy, the personal assistant of Sethu and somehow gets into touch with him. Impressed by Aneesa who is also a product of an orphanage where Sethu was also a resident, he begins to narrate the events in his life that led to the creation of the coveted novel.
Thereafter the film takes us on a romantic trip into the lives of Sethunath and Priyanandini, the later, a singer who hit it big with the lottery commercial that was made by Sethu. Priya who is the daughter of Dr. Bhanumathy gets offers in films, with the support of Sethu, and within days the two are drawn closer to each other. Priya becomes a source of inspiration for Sethu , who is a victim of a disheartened marriage. He regains his power of creativity as Priya urges him to refresh his writing skills. All is well, until things get complicated following the arrival of Manju, Sethu’s wife from U S, not to let him marry Priya.
As a script, the film’s premises don’t offer much promises. Moreover, with such a wafer thin plot, an experienced director could have made some sequences work. The scenarists Ashok Sasi, fails to bring out anything much impressive, even though from a weaker plot. The film suffers from slow narration from the very first scene, and the only thing modern and trendy in the film is the costumes that the characters use, all along.
The high light of the film is definitely Sada, who proves well with her first outing in Malayalam. She has a heavy role under her disposal which is done incredibly well. Jayaram is in his very usual self as Sethunath. None of the others in the cast, including Shaari as Manju, Nedumudi Venu as Kunjan Nair, Bindu Panicker as Sethunath’s sister and Devan as his brother-in-law have much to do. Jagathy Sreekumar as Subramaniam Swamy, is wasted in a role that stretch all across the film. The actor seriously is having a bad time with the screen, now a days. Though he is appearing in every second film that is coming out, none of them is giving him ample space to leave his personal mark.
The other highlight of the movie is definitely its songs that are, penned by the director himself. Every song in the film is exceptional, even though it cannot be said about their visualizations. Songs like ‘Onninumallathe..’ and ‘Urangaan’ are already in the helm of popularity. Azhagappan behind the camera gives the film a pretty serious appraoch

Full Movie Review and Description
The epic science fiction blockbuster is slowly but surely becoming a dying form of cinematic entertainment. Not since the days of cold war paranoia and the initial splurge of CGI technology back in the nineties has the genre seen much love either from its core enthusiasts or those looking for something big but different. Yet there are numerous obvious reasons for its decline in demand, most of which are unavoidably apparent in this, the latest and arguably first of its kind for over a year now, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Based upon a movie from the genre’s heyday, director Scott Derrickson’s version lacks the same sense of awe, conviction and relevancy to our current social climate. Bombarded with underdeveloped themes, an incoherent plot and extremely rough characterisation, the movie suffers not just from a lack of significance in its arrival, but also in its implementation. Most disappointing of all however is that in spite of the many technical flaws present, the biggest let down is that the movie simply doesn’t convince; the effects are impressive and the story can be gripping through its thick layer of foreboding atmosphere from time to time, but an overall lack of substance hurts the film’s ability to truly draw you in and take off. It’s a routinely enjoyable experience sure enough, but an over reliance on this safe-play structure stops the feature from excelling beyond mere light entertainment.
When the credits roll however, despite the movie’s impressive effects, imaginative premise and somewhat entertaining moments, The Day the Earth Stood Still simply feels like an empty experience. As science fiction, the movie conjures up some intelligent questions and yet David Scarpa never seems quite up to the task of taking them any further; and as popcorn fodder, the movie simply doesn’t do enough rule-breaking to come off as anything but standard fare. This awkward need to balance both crowds irrevocably results in a feature that indeed avoids polarising, but only to the point where mostly everyone will leave feeling under-stimulated. It has its fair share of compelling and visionary moments, but a distinct lack of development, coherency and substance stops The Day the Earth Stood Still from being one worth remembering. Light sci-fi with a dash of social intrigue that mildly entertains, but never reaches its potential.
