The epic science fiction blockbuster is slowly but surely becoming a dying form of cinematic entertainment. Not since the days of cold war paranoia and the initial splurge of CGI technology back in the nineties has the genre seen much love either from its core enthusiasts or those looking for something big but different. Yet there are numerous obvious reasons for its decline in demand, most of which are unavoidably apparent in this, the latest and arguably first of its kind for over a year now, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Based upon a movie from the genre’s heyday, director Scott Derrickson’s version lacks the same sense of awe, conviction and relevancy to our current social climate. Bombarded with underdeveloped themes, an incoherent plot and extremely rough characterisation, the movie suffers not just from a lack of significance in its arrival, but also in its implementation. Most disappointing of all however is that in spite of the many technical flaws present, the biggest let down is that the movie simply doesn’t convince; the effects are impressive and the story can be gripping through its thick layer of foreboding atmosphere from time to time, but an overall lack of substance hurts the film’s ability to truly draw you in and take off. It’s a routinely enjoyable experience sure enough, but an over reliance on this safe-play structure stops the feature from excelling beyond mere light entertainment.
When the credits roll however, despite the movie’s impressive effects, imaginative premise and somewhat entertaining moments, The Day the Earth Stood Still simply feels like an empty experience. As science fiction, the movie conjures up some intelligent questions and yet David Scarpa never seems quite up to the task of taking them any further; and as popcorn fodder, the movie simply doesn’t do enough rule-breaking to come off as anything but standard fare. This awkward need to balance both crowds irrevocably results in a feature that indeed avoids polarising, but only to the point where mostly everyone will leave feeling under-stimulated. It has its fair share of compelling and visionary moments, but a distinct lack of development, coherency and substance stops The Day the Earth Stood Still from being one worth remembering. Light sci-fi with a dash of social intrigue that mildly entertains, but never reaches its potential.

Hitman Joe (Nicolas Cage) goes to Bangkok for a month long assignment, to kill four people for Bangkok gang lord Surat.
He hires pickpocket Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm) as his go-between, a condition of the contract being that the gang will never meet Joe. Contracts from the Bangkok gangsters go through Kong via a nightclub dancer, who becomes romantically involved with Kong.
Joe’s first execution is done in traffic with him riding a bike and stopping in front of the car, he then shoots the target and all in the car with a semi-automatic gun. His second target is a hotel owner, Joe sneaks in to the penthouse and kills the target by drowning him in the pool.
Joe goes to the gang’s headquarters, kills most of the gang and saves Kong and the dancer. The fearful gang leader has flees to his car with three other accomplices; Joe spots him and shoots the gang members at the front of the car dead. After one of the gang in back of the car attempts to run to safety, Joe kills him. Joe gets into the back seat with Surat, the gang leader.
As the police arrive at the location, Joe is again in a difficult situation; he decides to use what is believed to be his last remaining bullet to kill himself by putting both his and Surat’s heads together. Joe then puts the gun up to his temple and pulls the trigger, killing himself and Surat.

Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) teaches earth sciences at the university and heads the Center of Volcanic Activity. For some unknown reason, Max did not return, leaving behind a wife and son, Sean (Josh Hutcherson). Sean’s mother leaves the teenager at Trevor’s house to get some quality time with his uncle. They look at Max’s copy of Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne and find a secret code. Back at the monitoring center Trevor compares the volcanic activity numbers and finds that they are exactly the same as the ones in the book. Trevor and Sean fly to Iceland to check one of the units and to see if they can find some information about where Max went. Trevor hires a beautiful mountain guide, Hannah (Anita Briem), to take them up the volcano. During an electrical storm on the volcano, they get trapped in an abandoned mine. They search for a way out of the mine and discover a wall filled with large diamonds. Unfortunately, the floor they are standing on can’t hold their weight, and they fall down a volcano tube for miles and miles until they reach the center of the earth. Once there, they encounter prehistoric glow birds, flying piranha, man-eating plants, and T-Rex dinosaurs that have been extinct for millions of years. They find that they are seeing the same things that were printed in the Jules Verne book. This gave them hope that someone was able to escape from the center of the earth and return to the surface.

President Ashton (William Hurt) is attending a global war on terror summit in Spain. Andie (Briana Evigan) is a member of the 410 crew, she goes around showcasing her talents illegally.Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum)one of her oldest friends from her younger years, understands her love for street dancing to save her from being sent away to texas he gets her an audition for MSA - Maryland School of Arts. she gets in but only by the kindness of one guy Chase (Robert Hoffman) also a student at MSA. In Andie’s first class she is told to improvise, only used to upbeat music, she panics and makes a fool of herself, then when told to do it again she messes up again.Only this time catching the eye of Chase.she is made to attend after school classes- at the same time as the 4 1 0 ’s dance rehearsal .After the lesson she heads down to rehearse with the crew, and she’s late not impressing her fellow crew members. After being late yet again and after mssing most rehearsals Andie is kicked out of the 410 crew and now cannot battle in ‘The Streets’.
On realising that she needs a crew Chase comes to her rescue, saying that under the radar in MSA there are a lot of people who would be skilled enough to join a crew. They find 10 people to join them in their crew, the MSA crew. They start practising and realise that they aren’t good enough to battle at ‘the Streets’ yet. So after embarassing themselves at the dragon in a dance battle against her old crew one of Andie’s fellow 4 1 0 ers decides to help them out. She helps them realise they have what it takes and make a prank, something that will help them get noticed. They stage their prank in the home of the lead member of the 410 crew. It doesn’t go down to well. But Chase and Andie are drawn together by their unavoidable attraction, they flirt and almost kiss while at a family barbeque being thrown by missy a former 4 1 0 member.
After this things go bad, the 4 1 0 track down chase after he leaves the barbeque leaving him with a black eye, they head down to MSA and trash the school. The director finds out and orders the students to come forward if they know anything. However, he knows that Andie is somehow responsible and calls her to his office, where upon a discussion he expells her and she is left shattered…
A few days later while the school is hosting a fundraiser they all recieve the text message telling them where ‘The Streets’ is being held. Andie chooses the ignore this but the other feel it nesessary to take part and go call on Andie, upon convincing her they head down the 8th and Main. Upon arriving they feel unwelcome and are told they don’t fit in by the 410 crew. Andie doesn’t appreciate this as she knows that the true meaning of the streets is about bringing something new to the floor. So she leads them all outside for 1 last showdown……….

In the early seventies, the cops abounded in the streets of New York. The Vietnam War raged in the East and the United States. Many soldiers returning home dead or addicted to an opiate called heroin, which they shared with young people eager to experience new things and are hooked to drugs. With the help of law enforcement, the mafia operated with almost total impunity in this free market competition. A few privileged and untouchable white men paid hundreds of millions of dollars to judges, lawyers and policemen of New York so no one opened his mouth and this beneficial relationship is maintained. No one dared to the tentacles of the Cosa Nostra. Until that appeared a black businessman named Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington). Nobody was set at Frank, the quiet assistant Bumpy Johnson, one of the principal leaders of the black mafia after the Vietnam War.
Frank Lucas used the open hole in the structure of power by the sudden death of his boss to build your own empire and create his version of “American success.” Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is a harsh police, accustomed to the street, which soon realize that control of the underworld is changing hands. He believes that someone is aupando above the known Mafia families and starts to suspect that a black drug dealer is out of nowhere to seize the situation. Both Lucas and Roberts are based on a very strict code of ethics that unlike the rest of their peers. They are two lonely figures on opposite sides of the law, but the fate of both crosses as we approach a confrontation that will change not only their lives but will alter the course of an entire generation of New Yorkers.
